The fire at Mbare destroyed goods worth millions of dollars. President Mnangagwa then asked the Ministry to make a plan for new markets everywhere. The Cabinet liked this idea right away. They saw Mbare as an urgent case and the first step of a bigger plan.
After Mbare, the next market will be built at Glen View Area 8. Many carpenters lost their workshops to fire there. Then, new markets will appear at Sakubva in Mutare, Kwekwe, and many other places. Even small rural areas will get proper markets.
Many sellers currently work by roads or open spaces without protection. The new markets will give them safe places to work. Minister Garwe said this follows the President's goal of making things better for everyone across Zimbabwe.
The first part of the new Mbare Market will help about 1,600 sellers. The market has a bank, police station, offices, and clean bathrooms. Sellers can take showers before working with food, making everything cleaner and safer.
These improvements help reach Vision 2030, which aims to make Zimbabwe more modern. The minister said these markets show how the country is growing. The government will save spaces for people who lost their spots during the fire, plus extra spots for women, young people, and disabled citizens.
