The port authority also hired a company to build a new part of the port, Berth 19B. This new section will be 240 meters long and let the port handle 300,000 more containers.
They are also talking with Japan about helping to build another new part, Berth 23. It is part of a big project to develop the port.
The Mombasa port is very important. It is used by several countries that don't have their own ocean access, including Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan.
The port has made many improvements recently, spending billions of shillings on new infrastructure, technology, and equipment.
Some of the big projects include a new oil terminal and a special area for cruise ships to dock. They also built a new six-lane road to help cargo move in and out of the port more quickly.
