Monty Panesar questions Ben Stokes tactic as injured Rishabh Pant battles on

Former England spinner Monty Panesar raised concerns about Ben Stokes' bowling tactics during the fourth Test at Old Trafford. Rishabh Pant had suffered a toe injury from Chris Woakes on day one, retiring hurt at 37 runs. Medical reports suggested a fracture in his right foot. Pant returned to bat despite his condition, visibly struggling while running between wickets. The crowd cheered his brave return to the crease.

Panesar praised Pant's courage but questioned Stokes' decision to target the injured batsman with yorkers. The former spinner compared the situation to Anil Kumble's heroic performance with a fractured jaw. Panesar described the tactic as ethically questionable given Pant's vulnerable state. The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman managed to add 17 runs to his overnight score. His final total of 54 helped India reach 358 in their first innings.

England responded strongly with opening partnerships from Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley. Both batsmen scored half-centuries during their team's reply. England finished day two at 225 for two wickets after 46 overs. The hosts trail India by 133 runs heading into day three.
