Rishabh Pant named India A captain for South Africa four-dayers

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will captain India A in two four-day matches against South Africa starting on Oct. 30 at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The Board of Control for Cricket in India selection committee named Pant to lead the squad after he fractured his right foot metatarsal on July 28 against England at Manchester. He retired hurt on 37 runs after inside-edging a reverse sweep from Chris Woakes.

The injury forced Pant to miss the Asia Cup, a two-match Test series against the West Indies, and the current Australia tour. Pant scored 479 runs across seven innings at an average of 68.42 on the England tour before his injury. The vice-captain began batting sessions at the Centre of Excellence earlier this month but was absent from Delhi's Ranji Trophy squad led by Ayush Badoni.
