Uganda security forces stopped two suicide bombers who tried to attack Munyonyo Basilica on Tuesday morning. Soldiers shot and killed both attackers before they could reach the church building. The female bomber turned out to be the daughter of a man who killed himself during terror attacks at Kampala police station back in 2021. Her father had blown himself up at the Central Police Station during coordinated bombings that hit three locations around the city. The Allied Democratic Forces claimed responsibility for those earlier attacks.
Intelligence officers caught the bombers during a planned operation based on advance information about the threat. Both suspects had arrived at the scene riding a motorcycle taxi. The explosion from their suicide vests destroyed the motorcycle and killed both attackers instantly. Security teams recovered human remains from the blast site and continue investigating the incident.
