Museveni Blames Youth Unrest on Poverty, Calls for Pan-African Integration

President Museveni spoke to 52 senior military officers at a college in Jinja City about youth protests spreading across Africa. He told the officers that African countries lack proper plans for creating wealth from their natural resources. The president said this problem causes young people to rebel against their governments. Officers from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya, South Sudan and Malawi attended the one-year training course. A Kenyan officer asked what leaders miss about Generation Z that leads to uprisings.

Museveni said Africa has plenty of resources but fails to use them well. He pointed to Uganda as an example of progress from independence to today. Only 4 percent of Ugandans participated in the money economy at independence compared to 67 percent today. The president stressed that wealth creation must start with individual families. He wants every household to focus on making money through productive activities.

The president named four important areas for economic growth across Africa. Commercial farming, manufacturing, services like tourism and information technology can boost African economies. He warned that Africa must stop shipping raw materials to other countries without processing them first. African nations need to build factories and create jobs for their citizens. Local markets remain too small to support large businesses.

Museveni called for stronger economic ties between African countries. He said Generation Z should demand East African integration instead of protesting local problems. The president believes economic unity will bring security and wealth to the continent. African leaders must transform their economies from basic farming to modern business systems. Peace and prosperity come through producing and selling goods and services to create jobs for young people.
