Mutsvangwa tells Chiwenga camp to sit tight till 2027

ZANU-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa asked supporters of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga to postpone political activities until the 2027 elective congress. Internal party divisions center on constitutional changes that would extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa's tenure from 2028 to 2030. War veterans prefer the 2028 election timeline with Chiwenga as a potential candidate. Mutsvangwa defended Mnangagwa's leadership during Monday's address at party headquarters.

Recent tensions emerged after Chiwenga presented corruption allegations against business associates connected to Mnangagwa. According to Mutsvangwa's account, the politburo dismissed the dossier. Party members questioned the document's legitimacy since it originated outside established institutional channels. Chiwenga has not announced his presidential ambitions, while Mnangagwa maintains his commitment to departing in 2028.
