Mutsvangwa mocks Chiwenga succession talk

ZANU-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa rejected suggestions that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga would automatically succeed President Emmerson Mnangagwa. He told SABC News that Zimbabwe's constitution requires candidates to compete through elections rather than receive appointments. Mutsvangwa compared the succession process to the papal selection and said the country operates as a democracy, where voters decide on leadership.

He said Chiwenga can declare his candidacy and face the electorate either within the party or independently. The spokesman dismissed the idea of anointing any politician to the presidency as contrary to democratic principles. Mutsvangwa questioned why some people focus exclusively on Chiwenga when multiple individuals hold political ambitions for higher office across the nation.
