Hakeem Baba-Ahmed told television viewers that three prominent politicians should step away from the 2027 presidential race. The former adviser to President Bola Tinubu named Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai as people who need to stop seeking the top job. He spoke during a Monday appearance on AIT Focus Nigeria program. Baba-Ahmed believes these veterans have already had their chance at leadership. He wants them to help younger people instead of running again.
Atiku served as Vice President for eight years and tried to become president three different times. Baba-Ahmed respects the former VP but thinks he should become a mentor rather than a candidate. He pointed out that Atiku will be close to 80 years old during the next election cycle. The political adviser wants fresh faces and new energy for Nigeria. He believes older politicians who have been around power for decades cannot live without it.
Baba-Ahmed suggested that Amaechi and El-Rufai should follow the same path if they can control their pride. He thinks these experienced leaders should help build alternatives to the ruling APC party. The former adviser believes they should support new candidates instead of putting themselves forward. He warned that giving power to the same old faces would create another government just like the current administration.
