Atiku and El-Rufai make strange pilgrimage to Buhari's Daura grave

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar explained his reasons for traveling to the burial site of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari. The opposition leader joined former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai and coalition members for prayers honoring the deceased leader. Buhari passed away on July 16, 2025, at a London medical facility before his remains returned to Daura for interment on Tuesday. Wednesday brought visits from Atiku, El-Rufai, Peter Obi, and additional coalition representatives to the grieving family. The delegation participated in traditional Islamic mourning customs during their condolence mission.

Abubakar documented his three-day sympathy journey to Katsina State through social media posts. He and El-Rufai conducted private graveside prayers before joining larger community religious observances. The former vice president made separate visits to console Aisha Buhari, the former first lady and widow. His public statements emphasized requests for divine mercy and eternal paradise for the departed president. The condolence delegation represented significant political figures from various opposition parties paying final respects.
