Narendra Modi, Keir Starmer to push trade deal in Mumbai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Mumbai this week to strengthen bilateral cooperation across trade, technology, defense, climate, health, and education. The leaders will address the sixth Global Fintech Fest on Oct. 9 and discuss opportunities within the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.

The meeting will review progress under the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and Vision 2035, a 10-year roadmap established when Modi visited London on July 24, 2025. That visit produced the historic CETA, which offers zero duty on 99.1 percent of Indian goods and aims to double bilateral trade by 2030.

Vision 2035 focuses on economic growth, education partnerships, technology development in AI and semiconductors, and defense collaboration. The Defense Industrial Roadmap promotes joint military exercises and co-production of defense products for both nations and global markets.
