National Consensus Commission Continues Second-Round Talks on State Reforms

Bangladesh's National Consensus Commission met with political parties for the seventh day Sunday. The group wants to create agreements about major government changes. Professor Ali Riaz led the meeting at the Foreign Service Academy starting at 11 a.m. About 30 political parties attended the talks. BTV News showed the discussions live on television.

The commission discussed forming committees to pick people for important government jobs. Leaders also talked about basic rules that guide the country. Representatives from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and National Citizen Party shared their ideas. Each party explained what reforms they wanted to see happen. The groups presented different views about changing how the government works.

Professor Muhammad Yunus created the commission on February 15, 2025. He serves as the chief adviser and leads the reform efforts. The commission started its first meetings on March 20 with 33 political groups. Those early talks ended on May 19 after two months of discussions. Yunus opened the second round of meetings on June 2.

The commission plans to finish a document called the July Charter next month. This paper will show the roadmap for government reforms. The charter will contain agreements reached during these political talks. Party leaders hope to find common ground on difficult issues. The final document will guide future changes to Bangladesh's government system.
