Kenya Pauses Job Drive, Keeps Kisumu Event Only.

Kenya's jobs minister, Alfred Mutua, said the country's big hiring push must wait. Some people still come to hiring places, but the work stopped weeks ago.

"We have no other hiring plans right now," Mutua said. He asked people not to follow the old plan, which was meant to run through February 20, 2025, but to wait for news from his office.

But one hiring event stays open. People in Kisumu can still look for work this Friday and Saturday. This happens next to a big business meeting in the Nyanza area.

"The Kisumu event on February 7 and 8 will help people from Nyanza counties find jobs," Mutua said.

The government stopped the main hiring plan two months ago. They need time to check how well things work. The plan started last November in Machakos County and ran in six counties before it stopped.

"We need time to look at what we learned," Mutua said. "We must fix some papers for people who want to work in other lands."

Kakamega County was next on the list, but plans changed. The same people who help with hiring must read through papers from earlier events and make sure each person has the right forms ready.

The minister will tell people when the big hiring plan starts again. For the time being, only those near Kisumu can try for jobs this week.
