NBSZ sets 7,800-unit target for festive blood drive

Zimbabwe's national blood collection agency has initiated a holiday campaign targeting more than 7,800 donations to address anticipated medical emergencies during the festive period. Lucy Marowa, chief executive of National Blood Service Zimbabwe, explained that hospitals typically face increased demand while contributions decline as students and regular donors travel or celebrate with families.

The organization has reached 90 percent of its annual goal after collecting 73,750 units through October against a target of 97,500 for the entire year. Officials noted that student populations provide consistent, safe supplies throughout most months. Last year's holiday collection fell short at 5,432 units, achieving only 73 percent of the seasonal objective.
