Nees readies midfield shakeup for Warriors AFCON

Warriors coach Michael Nees plans to add fresh faces to future team selections after watching strong performances from two separate squads. The teams competed at the 2025 COSAFA Cup and played two friendly matches against Morocco opponents. Nees handled the friendlies versus Burkina Faso and Niger with mostly fringe players and newcomers. The COSAFA Cup team featured mainly U20 players under coach Simon Marange. Both squads impressed the head coach with their skills.

Nees spoke about his plans after the 1-1 tie with Niger on Tuesday. He praised several new players such as Germany-based midfielder Jonah Fabisch. The coach said the team needed more options at central midfield and Fabisch proved he could play at that level. He also noted standout performers from the COSAFA squad gave the team better depth. The Warriors will need all available talent for the upcoming tournament.

Zimbabwe earned a spot at the 2025 AFCON tournament set for Morocco next December. Nees warned that making the final squad would prove difficult for all players. He said he cannot test more players because time has run short. Every player must improve their game over the next six months. Competition for roster spots will be fierce among both veteran and new players.
