Nga Kor Ming urges Shafie Apdal to address cleanliness issues in Semporna ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming urged Semporna Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal to prevent Semporna from becoming the dirtiest town in Asia. In a media conference for the KPKT Sentuhan Kasih Tour, Nga stressed that it is Shafie’s responsibility to oversee the town's cleanliness, especially with Visit Malaysia 2026 approaching. He highlighted that cleanliness issues in Semporna had gone viral on social media, and maintaining the town's image is a shared responsibility between the federal government and local representatives.

Nga also announced the upgrade of the People’s Housing Program (PPR) to the People’s Residence Program (PRR) as part of Malaysia’s national public housing reforms under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13). This change aims to provide more modern and comfortable homes, aligning with Malaysia’s international recognition for affordable housing. Nga mentioned that Sabah has the highest number of PPR projects in the country, with 39 projects since the Eighth Malaysia Plan.

Additionally, he noted the completion of the long-abandoned PRR Putera Kiansom project in Sabah, demonstrating the government’s commitment to resolving delayed housing projects. Looking ahead, Nga emphasized that future housing projects will focus on modern, sustainable homes and community-friendly facilities.
