Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly has joined England’s senior squad for the first time as a replacement for the injured Reece James. England withdrew James after medical staff confirmed he was hurt on Saturday while playing for Chelsea in a 2-1 win over Liverpool.
O’Reilly, 20, usually plays as a midfielder but has filled in at left back for City this season, and he steps up from the Under-21 team. He has represented England at every youth level from U15 to U20.
England will face Wales in a friendly on Thursday, and will play a World Cup qualifier against Latvia on Oct. 14.
