Nigeria's maritime agency says last year was a major win for the country's shipping sector. The director general of NIMASA, Dayo Mobereola, pointed to a full calendar year with no pirate attacks in local waters. He also highlighted Nigeria getting a seat on the International Maritime Organization's council and new treaty signings by President Bola Tinubu as key achievements. These factors, he stated, have built more confidence for investors and lowered insurance costs for ships.
Mobereola credited cooperation from industry unions and other partners for the stability and growth. He promised the agency would push even harder on safety and environmental rules in the coming year, especially with the new global responsibilities from the IMO position. The statement also thanked the Minister for the Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, along with the agency's own staff.
