Nile Star suspends services after deadly accidents

TL;DR: Nile Star Buses halts operations after three fatal accidents in a month to review and restructure services.

Nile Trade Link Services, the operator of Nile Star Buses, has suspended all passenger transport activities after a series of deadly crashes. The company announced on Thursday, noting the suspension would allow for a thorough review and restructuring of its operations. Effective immediately, the service will not transport passengers, though parcel and luggage services will continue.

The decision comes on the heels of three serious incidents within a month. A head-on collision between a Nile Star bus and a Platinum Bus in Kiryandongo left 43 dead, while another bus swerved off the road in Kololo, Kiryandongo, injuring several passengers. The third crash occurred in Wobulenzi, where an executive bus struck a motorcycle, critically injuring its rider and passenger. Public outrage has followed, with many welcoming the suspension as a necessary step toward improving safety in the country’s long-distance transport sector. Authorities are still investigating the accidents.
