Nintendo Switch 2 Screen Flunks HDR With Dim Panel

GamingTech tested the Nintendo Switch 2 screen and found major problems with brightness levels. The handheld console reaches only 400 to 450 nits of peak brightness during gaming. Zelda: Breath of the Wild hit 420 nits during testing sessions. Cyberpunk 2077 maxed out at 450 nits across different scenes. These numbers fall far below what experts consider good HDR performance.

The LCD screen cannot show true black colors because of constant backlighting issues. Black levels stay around 0.5 nits instead of zero like OLED displays. HDR gaming feels disappointing compared to other modern devices. The screen appears washed out during bright outdoor scenes. Contrast ratios suffer from the weak brightness output.

Docked mode performs better than handheld gaming for HDR content. System calibration works well when connected to external displays. Cyberpunk 2077 matches other console versions during TV play. Zelda games still look bland because of artistic choices and poor contrast. The Nintendo Switch 2 launched worldwide today with network updates available.
