Nomination dispute heats up in Nakawa Division West race

A dispute has arisen in the race for Nakawa Division West after Bwowe Ivan challenged the Electoral Commission (EC) over the nomination of seven rival candidates. Bwowe petitioned the EC, claiming that the aspirants were unlawfully nominated for a non-existent constituency called Nakawa West. He argued that only Nakawa Division West is officially recognized by the EC for the 2025-2026 elections.

In his affidavit, Bwowe presented certified copies of nomination papers for the seven candidates, including Happy Nasasira, Herbert Burora, and Felix Okuye, which indicated they had applied for Nakawa West. He is seeking declarations that Nakawa West is not a legitimate electoral area and that the nominations of the seven candidates should be nullified. Additionally, Bwowe requested confirmation that he is the sole valid candidate for Nakawa Division West, potentially declaring him unopposed.

Herbert Burora, one of the respondents, dismissed Bwowe’s claims as unfounded. In a social media post, Burora questioned the logic of Bwowe's argument, emphasizing that the EC had verified and endorsed all the nominations. The EC has not yet commented on the petition.
