NUP cries foul as Kaija, seized in Kampala, stirs abduction row

Armed security personnel allegedly removed Doreen Kaija from her residence and transported her to an unknown destination, according to Uganda's National Unity Platform opposition party. The party's Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, announced on social media that heavily armed men using two vehicles conducted the operation against their School of Leadership coordinator. Recent criminal charges have targeted multiple NUP members, with authorities accusing Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro and Saudah Madaada of conducting unauthorized military-style training at the party's February headquarters gathering. The opposition group disputes these allegations and maintains that the February event represented legitimate political activities while asserting Waiswa's absence from the meeting. Rubongoya characterized these actions as deliberate efforts to suppress opposition voices before the approaching 2026 electoral contest.

Military spokesperson Major General Felix Kulayigye rejected abduction claims and emphasized that government forces conduct legal arrests rather than kidnappings. The Uganda People's Defence Forces maintains that all recent detentions follow proper legal procedures.
