Nvidia Pulls RTX 5090D Leaving China GPU Drought

China can no longer buy high-end NVIDIA RTX 5090D graphics cards. US trade rules changed, stopping these powerful computer chips from entering Chinese markets. Two weeks ago, NVIDIA called partners to halt making new chips because they broke strict export limits on memory speed. The ban comes during the second quarter, with current supplies running out soon. Companies making graphics cards cannot even place orders for these parts anymore.

Chinese customers must use less powerful chips like the RTX 5080 instead. The US government blocks chips with memory bandwidth above 1400 GB/s or input-output speed over 1100 GB/s from going to China. Both speeds together cannot exceed 1700 GB/s, making the RTX 5090D illegal to sell there. These graphics cards look similar to regular RTX 5090 models but have fewer AI abilities because of earlier restrictions. NVIDIA faces similar problems with its H20 AI chip for data centers, which also needs special permission for Chinese sales.
