NVIDIA says Google TPUs limited to specific AI workloads

NVIDIA has dismissed suggestions that application-specific integrated circuits from Google pose a serious threat to its dominance in artificial intelligence hardware, arguing that such specialized processors remain confined to narrow use cases while its own platforms power the entire machine learning ecosystem. The graphics chip giant acknowledged Google's technical achievements and confirmed their ongoing commercial relationship, yet emphasized that its architecture delivers superior flexibility by supporting every AI model across all computing environments.

Google's tensor processing units have attracted external interest from major players like Meta and Anthropic, with projections indicating that outside sales could eventually capture a tenth of NVIDIA's AI-related income. The search company has spent nearly ten years refining its custom silicon, achieving particularly strong results in inference operations through vertical integration of hardware and software components.
