Okpebholo pays off ally for Obaseki's mess

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, approved N914 million compensation for a demolished hotel. The payment covers damages from the destruction of T. Latifah Hotel and Suites belonging to APC Youth Leader Tony Adun. Former Governor Godwin Obaseki demolished the property in February 2020, allegedly for sitting on government land. Information Commissioner Paul Ohonbamu announced the decision following a meeting of the state council.

The compensation stems from a court judgment in favor of Adun after he sued the state government. Justice Daniel Okungbowa had restrained the previous administration from demolishing the Benin City facility. Okpebholo previously promised to rebuild the hotel during Democracy Day celebrations. The governor honors court decisions and believes justice must prevail, according to official statements.
