Olinda Chapel Nkomo grilled in Reading over Bicester manager sacking

A manager who battled her former boss in court has emerged victorious after claiming sexual harassment led to her wrongful termination. Amber Stoter faced off against Gain Healthcare at an employment tribunal where she fought without legal representation. The 30-year-old mother from Bicester accused CEO Olinda Chapel-Nkomo of firing her for speaking out against inappropriate behavior. Chapel-Nkomo's husband Tytan allegedly made crude sexual remarks and claimed the employee belonged to him. The tribunal heard how he responded to her social media post about working outdoors with a sexually suggestive comment.

Stoter told the hearing that Nkomo compared her to his girlfriend and warned her against smiling at other men during work trips. The CEO's spouse apparently declared she was part of his property when she acknowledged a passing motorist. Chapel-Nkomo terminated Stoter just days after receiving the harassment complaint in June 2023. The company claimed the dismissal resulted from escalatory behavior during a meeting between the women. Employment Judge Colin Baran ruled that the real reason for termination was retaliation against the harassment report.

The judge found that Chapel-Nkomo knew about the misconduct allegations against her husband when she made the firing decision. Stoter described the ordeal as bizarre and horrible while explaining how anxiety forced her to seek medical help. A September hearing will determine her compensation amount. The company failed to investigate the harassment claims after removing the complainant from her position.
