Outriders 2 Cancelled, Studio Shifts Focus to Gears and Sony IP

People Can Fly threw away their second Outriders game before finishing it. The studio scrapped what gamers hoped would become a major sequel. Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming backed up earlier reports about the cancelled project. Screenshots and videos proved the game needed months more work before hitting stores. The developers had just started recording actor movements when everything stopped.

Sebastian Wojciechowski runs People Can Fly and confirmed the bad news last month. Square Enix caused the whole mess when they refused to send important paperwork. The publisher never told the game makers whether they wanted to continue or quit the project. Communication between the companies completely broke down over contract details. The studio had no choice but to stop working on the sequel.

People Can Fly killed two different games during the same year. Project Gemini was the secret name for Outriders 2 before anyone knew about it. The motion capture stage means actors were just starting to record their performances. Game development takes years and this cancellation wasted tons of time and money. Square Enix left the studio hanging without clear directions.

The studio keeps other projects alive despite losing Outriders 2. Microsoft hired them to make a new Gears of War game called E-Day. Sony also gave them a secret project that nobody can talk about. These remaining games might help the company recover from the cancellation disaster. People Can Fly refuses to give up making video games.
