Overloaded bus death trap kills three returning from Rangpur feast

A packed bus carrying wedding guests crashed into a pond and killed three people including a child on Wednesday night. The horror smash happened around 11:30 pm at Deuti Beltola in Pirgachha when the driver lost control. Police say 50 other passengers got hurt in the deadly accident. The bus was jam-packed with extra riders heading home from a wedding party. Nobody knows who the three victims are yet.

The doomed bus was hauling 50 to 70 Hindu community members from Rangpur City back from a feast. They had traveled to Beltoli area in Gaibandha district for the post-wedding celebration. The crash happened near Jabbar's shop on the busy Pirgachha-Sundarganj highway during their return trip. Witnesses watched the overloaded vehicle veer off the road and plunge straight into the roadside water. The bus sank fast with dozens of terrified passengers trapped inside.

Fire crews and police raced to the scene and started pulling people from the wreckage. Local villagers jumped in to help rescue the injured passengers from the murky pond water. Ambulances rushed the wounded victims to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment. Police chief Nure Alam Siddiqui confirmed the death toll and said investigators are looking into what caused the crash. The tragic accident has shaken the tight-knit Hindu community across the region.
