Pakistan to Assume Presidency of UN Security Council for July 2025, Says Ambassador

Pakistan takes control of the United Nations Security Council during July 2025. Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad leads the country's efforts as president of the powerful group. The ambassador promises Pakistan will run meetings fairly and openly for all member nations. Pakistan earned this role through its two-year membership that started earlier this year. The leadership position moves between all fifteen Security Council members each month.

Ambassador Ahmad knows the world faces many serious problems and conflicts right away. Pakistan plans to hold two major meetings about working together peacefully and solving disputes through talks. These events will bring together the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The country wants to focus on trouble spots across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Pakistan has served on the Security Council seven times before since 1952.

The Pakistani diplomat already met with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to discuss July's work schedule. Pakistan believes countries should talk through their problems rather than fight each other. The nation brings years of experience helping keep peace around the world to its new job. Pakistan won its Security Council seat with strong support from other countries. Nearly all United Nations members voted for Pakistan when elections took place last year.
