Paul Put names 28-man squad for Uganda's Morocco friendlies

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has named a 28-man squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Chad and Morocco, scheduled for November in Morocco. The team will first face Chad on November 15, followed by a match against Morocco on November 19. These fixtures serve as the final preparation for Uganda ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they will compete in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia, and Tanzania.

A notable inclusion in the squad is midfielder Al Hassan Baba, who earns his first senior national team call-up. Baba, who plays for Romanian club FCSB, is regarded as one of Uganda’s most promising young talents in Europe. The squad also sees the return of forward Melvyn Lorenzen, who last played for the Cranes nearly nine years ago. Lorenzen, now with Muangthong United in Thailand, will provide valuable experience to the team.

Coach Put's selection features a blend of foreign-based players and local talent, with nine Uganda Premier League players included. These include Vipers SC’s Allan Okello, URA FC's Moses Aliro, and KCCA FC's Shafik Kwikiriza. Defensive reinforcements come in the form of Timothy Awany, who plays for FC Ashdod in Israel. Goalkeepers Tom Ikara and Denis Kiggundu will also have the chance to impress. Put emphasized that these friendlies will be crucial for assessing player combinations as the team continues its AFCON preparations.
