Pirates snag De Jong to fuel title charge

Pirates just snagged a transfer target they missed earlier. Orlando Pirates finally signed midfielder Andre de Jong from Stellenbosch FC. The 29-year-old adds some needed attacking smarts for their title run. He brings a solid record from his last couple of seasons. De Jong managed three goals and an assist in twenty-two matches this term. Last year, he contributed eight goals and five assists across forty seven games.

His experience across several leagues should help the squad. He has played professionally in New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa. Previous clubs include AmaZulu and Royal AM before Stellenbosch. His overall senior stats show 69 goals and 37 assists in 260 appearances. He will compete for playing time in a crowded midfield group. Players like Sipho Mbule and Patrick Maswanganyi already hold spots. Kabelo Dlamini and Relebohile Mofokeng also provide depth.

The move comes as the Pirates are flying high this season. They currently lead the league table after twelve matches. The club has twenty-eight points from nine victories, one draw, and two losses. They also have an extra match still to play. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has built a strong defensive unit. The team has scored eighteen times while only letting in five goals. That gives them a plus thirteen goal difference. A recent six-game winning streak has fueled their championship charge. The club already won two domestic cups this campaign.
