PM faces resignation drama, tension spills over

Bulgaria's parliament kicked off with Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov facing questions about the government's direction, and he got grilled by lawmakers pushing for his resignation over economic issues. Deputy PM Elisaveta Belobradova handed him her resignation letter right there in the chamber, which made things super awkward. The PM basically told critics to check the constitution if they want him gone, pointing out that only a no-confidence vote can force him out.

Zhelyazkov bragged that the economy's been growing at double the EU average, hitting around 3% this year, and unemployment keeps dropping. A no-confidence motion from the Continuing Change-Democratic Bulgaria coalition is coming because they think the budget sucks and sparked protests.

Several ministers skipped the control session, and parliamentary speaker Raya Nazaryan confirmed who wouldn't show up.
