Pogba Plots Monaco Move Post Doping Ban

Paul Pogba talks with Monaco about joining their team after his drug ban ends. The French midfielder played for Manchester United and Juventus before officials suspended him. Monaco wants the 32-year-old player to sign a two-year contract. Team leaders hope to complete the deal within several days.

Drug testers caught Pogba using a banned substance after a Juventus game against Udinese. Officials first gave him a four-year suspension from playing soccer. Pogba appealed the decision and reduced his ban to 18 months. He left Juventus through mutual agreement and became free to play again during March.

The banned substance DHEA boosts testosterone levels among athletes. Court officials found that Pogba took the drug accidentally rather than on purpose. Medical experts determined the substance only helps female athletes perform better. Male players receive no performance benefits from using DHEA during competition.

Pogba trained before the season started as he prepared for his comeback. Discussions between the player and Monaco continued for multiple weeks. The World Cup winner wants to return home to French soccer. Monaco competes against other teams during the current Ligue 1 season.
