Ghana Police executed an intelligence-driven raid at Ankaase Gyadam near Asamang Tamfoe on Friday, July 25, 2025. Officers detained twenty-seven male individuals suspected of participating in galamsey activities across several unauthorized mining locations. The operation followed extensive surveillance and coordination between law enforcement and regional security networks. Several suspects fought back against arrest using machetes and other weapons before police gained control. Authorities successfully completed the mission despite the violent resistance from illegal miners.
Police confiscated extensive equipment during the enforcement action. Seized items comprised eleven excavators, one bulldozer, a pump-action shotgun, three passenger vehicles, a Mitsubishi pickup truck, and a pick loader. Officers also recovered multiple water pumping devices and various mining implements. All confiscated materials remain secured as evidence for the continuing investigation. The twenty-seven detained suspects currently assist police with additional inquiries while remaining in custody.
