Porterfield skips Warriors training opener

Zimbabwe's national soccer team began World Cup qualifier training in Harare on Wednesday without newly appointed head coach Ian Porterfield. The British manager missed the National Sports Stadium session because of prior obligations with government and federation officials.

Zifa senior administrative officer Lazarus Mhurushomana said Porterfield met with Minister of Sport, Recreation and Culture Witness Mangwende before conferring with Zifa chairman Leo Mugabe. These appointments prevented the coach from leading his first practice with players preparing for the African Zone Group Four match against Angola in Luanda, scheduled between November 8 and 10.

Mhurushomana confirmed Porterfield would conduct training on Thursday. The football association hired the coach last week ahead of the continental qualification campaign.
