Pretoria Van Thief Nabbed at Beitbridge with Fake Docs

Police caught a 44-year-old man trying to take a stolen car across the border on Monday afternoon. Officers arrested him at Beitbridge Port of Entry around 3:30 PM. The man had fake papers for a grey Hyundai H1 that someone had stolen from Pretoria back in August. He wanted to drive the vehicle into Zimbabwe without getting caught.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba from Limpopo police said the suspect faces charges for having a stolen car and using false documents. Police took the vehicle away to check it more. The car was reported missing on August 12, 2024. Officers at the departure checkpoint spotted something wrong with his paperwork.

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the border officers for doing good work. She said they acted fast when they saw the problem. The police commissioner was happy that her officers caught the suspect before he could cross into Zimbabwe. The man will go to court in Musina soon.

Police continue looking into the case. They want to find out more about how the man got the stolen car. The suspect sits in jail waiting for his court date. Officers seized the Hyundai for their investigation.
