Producer says Battlefield 6 destruction is impossible on Unreal

Senior Producer David Sirland explained that Battlefield 6 continues using the Frostbite Engine rather than switching to Unreal Engine 5. Generic engines cannot support the advanced destruction mechanics that define the franchise. The development team customized Frostbite specifically for this latest entry while simultaneously designing the game around the engine's capabilities. Producer Alexia Christofi noted that studio engineers possess extensive Frostbite knowledge that enables efficient collaboration. Transitioning to different technology would require substantial time investment.

Players can access the open beta through pre-loading before weekend testing periods on August 9 through 10 and August 14 through 17. Three battlefields await participants during the first weekend session. Combat modes span Conquest, Breakthrough, Domination, and King of the Hill formats. Battlefield 6 arrives October 10 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S platforms.
