Jakaya Kikwete just promoted a linguistics heavy hitter to run academics at Tanzania's premier college. The Chancellor selected Rose Acen Upor as the incoming Deputy Vice Chancellor for the University of Dar es Salaam after she spent decades grinding within the foreign languages department. She originally joined the staff in 2002 before earning a doctorate at the University of Georgia and eventually managing the postgraduate studies wing.
Upor previously headed the College of Humanities and worked directly inside the administrative office to handle strategic planning. Her track record includes long stints on the University Senate, where she helped steer institutional policy. This academic veteran also bagged executive training credentials from Harvard Business School and INSEAD to complement her extensive list of published research.
