PSC pledges stronger disability inclusion efforts

Kenya's Public Service Commission has reinforced its dedication to advancing disability inclusion throughout government operations while emphasizing the need for accessible workplace infrastructure. Vice Chairperson Mary Kimonye stated the agency remains focused on building partnerships that support constitutional requirements mandating persons with disabilities hold at least five percent of all elected and appointed positions.

Representatives from Light for the World, Christian Blind Mission, SightSavers and the National Council for Persons with Disabilities met with commission officials to discuss collaborative opportunities. Commissioner Harun Hassan, who oversees the Disability Mainstreaming Committee, described the initiative as both a legal obligation and a moral duty while referencing the recently enacted Persons with Disabilities Act.

Light for the World Country Director Richard Mativu praised the commission for establishing a dedicated working committee and encouraged development partners to align their assistance with existing frameworks. Secretary Paul Famba and technical teams from participating organizations attended the consultation at Commission House.
