Putin tells EU to relax over fake Russia war fears

Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed European Union concerns about potential Russian attacks on NATO members as baseless fear-mongering on Thursday. Putin addressed the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi and characterized the repeated warnings from EU leaders as an inconceivable mantra. He questioned whether European officials genuinely believed the threat or deliberately misled their populations about Russian intentions.

Putin suggested EU leaders should focus on internal challenges rather than external threats. Poland and the Baltic nations have expressed particular alarm about Russian aggression following the Ukraine conflict. These countries cite security concerns as justification for increased military spending, but Russian officials contend the warnings serve as pretexts for militarization near Russian borders.
