Rajshahi University marks 72 years with celebrations and calls for progress

Rajshahi University threw a huge party for its 72nd birthday celebration on campus. Students and teachers gathered around the main building to watch colorful balloons float away and pigeons fly free. The Education Adviser Prof Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar showed up for the special day. Everyone sang the national anthem and raised flags high above the grounds. The crowd also planted new trees to mark this important milestone.

Vice-chancellor Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib told everyone how proud he feels about the school. He bragged about former students who became successful people around the world. The university keeps working hard to fix problems with student meals and housing. Teachers and students marched through campus streets to celebrate together. Officials held a big meeting to discuss the university's future plans.

This massive school started small back in 1953 with just 161 students learning from 68 teachers. The founders created six departments under three different study areas. The university has grown into a giant education center with over 1,050 teachers and 38,000 students. Foreign students from 26 different countries come here to study and learn. Professor Itrat Hossain Zuberi became the very first person to run this university.

The campus houses 18 dormitory buildings where students live during their studies. Six of these buildings serve female students exclusively. One special dorm welcomes international students and researchers from other countries. The university also supports 47 PhD students and 116 master's degree candidates. About 149 people work as researchers on various academic projects.
