Rajshahi University shut down as Moktar Hossain leads strike

Rajshahi University officials maintained their suspension of the Dependent Quota program during a Sunday syndicate meeting at the vice chancellor's residence. The program provides admission preferences for employee children seeking bachelor degree enrollment. Dr Iftikharul Alam Masud confirmed the continuation of this policy freeze following student protests against what demonstrators called discriminatory practices. The registrar announced the decision would affect the upcoming academic session admissions process. Campus tensions escalated after the midnight implementation amid ongoing student demonstrations.

Officers' Association President Moktar Hossain declared a comprehensive work stoppage beginning Monday in response to the administration's choice. The strike will halt all non-essential university operations while preserving vital services such as utilities and transportation. RUCSU election activities will proceed despite the broader shutdown affecting campus functions. Employee frustration stems from the absence of benefits available at other national universities. Recent weeks witnessed competing demonstrations from various campus groups supporting and opposing the quota system.
