Ramathuba hails Limpopo job gains

Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba welcomed the province's leading performance in reducing unemployment, which fell by 5.2 percentage points to 29.8 percent according to the most recent national labor survey. She described this progress as a step toward the provincial development plan's target of lowering the rate below twenty percent, though she acknowledged further work is required. The Premier emphasized that increased industrialization and local manufacturing are essential for generating sustainable employment.

The province's economic strategy, which focuses on leveraging its natural resources through special economic zones and targeted infrastructure projects, is credited with this improvement. Premier Ramathuba also highlighted recent investment pledges totaling R170 billion, affirming her administration's commitment to ensuring a significant portion of these commitments are realized to foster inclusive growth.

Nationally, the official unemployment rate decreased to 31.9 percent, with job gains recorded in sectors like construction and community services. Despite this positive trend, youth unemployment remains a significant challenge across the country.
