Reiger Park bloodbath leaves six dead

Law enforcement officials in the Nelson Mandela Bay District detained multiple individuals during weekend operations targeting serious offenses across the Eastern Cape region. Police recovered firearms, ammunition and merchandise valued at approximately 150,000 rand while executing Operation Shanela II activities between late October and early November.

Officers arrested four people on Thursday after locating a stolen Volkswagen Polo and mobile phones during patrols in Wells Estate. Investigators discovered blank weapons in the vehicle and later confiscated an actual firearm from a store in Motherwell, where a 32-year-old Ethiopian national faced charges. Separate incidents on Friday involved ammunition seizures connected to a hijacking case in Gelvandale. Authorities established a roadblock on Saturday after receiving information about an abduction near Somerset East. A confrontation resulted when suspects fired at police after one vehicle overturned, leaving one perpetrator dead and another in custody, while officers rescued a 40-year-old victim.

District Commissioner Major General Vuyisile Ncata praised personnel for their performance during the coordinated enforcement effort. The confiscated items comprised pistols, vaping products and vehicles that authorities say disrupt criminal networks operating throughout the metropolitan area.
