Six dead people in a Reiger Park drive-by shooting

Authorities in Gauteng province are hunting for gunmen who carried out a shooting attack in the Boksburg area that left six dead and three injured. The assault happened around 5 p.m. on Saturday when attackers in two Volkswagen Polo sedans fired at targets along Williams Road in Reiger Park. Three men and three women died at the location, while wounded victims went to hospitals for treatment.

Acting Provincial Police Commissioner Fred Kekana deployed extra investigative personnel and visited the neighborhood on Sunday to meet with commanders and residents. Premier Panyaza Lesufi condemned the violence and ordered officers to locate those responsible. A specialized team has begun working on the case while police request community assistance through hotlines. Family members suggested the violence may have targeted specific individuals.

The East Rand township has experienced previous episodes of criminal activity linked to gang conflicts. Kekana plans to convene officials from education and social services departments this week to discuss youth crime prevention strategies. Authorities say information from local sources is helping advance the investigation.
