The victim Forward Mapfunde had just received his retirement money totaling over thirteen thousand US dollars and some local currency. His bank accounts connected to his mobile phone number made him an easy target.
Dube and his gang made a fake identity card with the victim's details but Dube's photo. They took this fake card to an Econet shop and convinced workers to give them a new SIM card for Mapfunde's number. The crooks downloaded the bank's mobile app and linked it to their stolen phone line. They moved all the money from both accounts into the mobile wallet they controlled.
