Rigathi Gachagua Demands ICC Action in Kenya

Rigathi Gachagua Wants the ICC to Watch Kenya.

Rigathi Gachagua used to be Kenya's Deputy President. On Sunday, he said the ICC should monitor Kenya. The ICC is a big court that handles serious crimes.

Mr. Gachagua is worried about gangs in Kenya. He thinks they are coming back. He said these gangs hurt people in the past. They killed and raped people.

He spoke about this at a church in Nyeri. He told the leaders there to find good lawyers. He wants the lawyers to write to the ICC and for the ICC to come to Kenya soon. He does not want the gangs to do bad things again.

Mr. Gachagua talked about something that happened in 2009. He said a gang attacked a village in Nyeri. They killed 29 people. They also raped women and did other crimes. He said a man named John Michuki had to work hard to stop the gangs back then.

Mr. Gachagua is afraid the same gangs are coming back now. He wants the police to stop them. He said the police need to be honest about what is happening.

The ICC has worked in Kenya before. They looked into crimes that happened after an election in 2007. Some people think the court might need to come back. They are worried about violence in the future.

Mr. Gachagua wants Kenya to be safe. He does not want gangs to hurt people again, and he hopes the ICC can help prevent that.
