Road Chief Rips Into MP Protesters Over Election Snafu

Road program chief Nii Lantey Vanderpuye slammed opposition lawmakers for marching to police headquarters about delayed election results. He called their Thursday protest a waste of time on Channel One TV. Vanderpuye said the lawmakers wanted media attention instead of real answers. The march looked more like a show than serious work to fix voting problems. He thinks some lawmakers just wanted exercise to lose weight around their stomachs.

Vanderpuye asked why lawmakers went to police instead of election officials. Police do not run elections or announce winners according to Ghana's constitution. The Electoral Commission handles all voting matters and declares results. Lawmakers should have taken their complaints to election officers or gone to court. Their march to police headquarters missed the point completely and wasted everyone's time.
