Russia and India mark 25 years of strategic ties

Russia and India have strengthened their partnership over 25 years since signing the Declaration on Strategic Partnership, according to Denis Alipov, the Russian ambassador to India. The declaration was signed on Oct. 3, 2000, by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Russian President Vladimir Putin, establishing cooperation in areas such as international security, economics, and culture.

Alipov highlighted the 25th anniversary on Friday, noting that 2025 has seen significant bilateral exchanges between the nations. An upcoming bilateral summit in New Delhi later this year will mark 15 years since the partnership was elevated to a special and privileged relationship. The countries continue collaborating in nuclear power, defense, space exploration, and emerging sectors such as small modular reactors and Arctic research.

Both nations aim to increase trade to $100 billion by 2030 through negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and India. Innovation remains central to the partnership through initiatives involving the Sirius Educational Foundation and Atal Innovation Mission.
