Five robbery suspects broke out of Ruti police station Sunday night around 10 pm. The men faced serious theft charges before they fled from their cells. Police officers were unable to explain how the prisoners managed to escape. Robert Kanusu works as the deputy city commissioner for Mbarara City South. Officers tried to catch the escaped prisoners right away. A police officer shot and killed Gordon Bogere during the search. Bogere ran a business from Kibaya Cell and lived nearby.
